Late-game substitute Paul Arriola scored into a wide-open net in the 81st minute as the Seattle Sounders pulled off a 1-1 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday at Carson, Calif.

Jordan Morris moved in on goal from the right side of the box, drew Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski out of position and sent a pass to a wide-open Arriola, who had just come on as a sub two minutes prior to the goal.

Andrew Thomas had four saves for the Sounders (7-9-7, 28 points), who earned a draw for the fourth consecutive match. Seattle remains winless (0-8-4) over its last 12 matches, a drought which began with a 2-0 home loss against Los Angeles on May 16.

Marco Reus scored on a penalty kick in the 44th minute for the Galaxy (7-10-9, 30 points), who earned a point after a 3-0 loss to the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday.

Reus scored for the second time in as many starts after going through an 11-match run without a goal. His goal came after the Galaxy’s Hirving “Chucky” Lozano was fouled in the box by Paul Rothrock.

Marcinkowski made seven saves for the Galaxy, who finished with a win and a draw against the Sounders this season.

While Los Angeles is just outside the ninth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference because of a tiebreaker, Seattle is in 13th place, but just two points from playoff eligibility.

Sounders forward Dejan Joveljic departed in the 79th minute with an apparent leg injury and was replaced by Arriola. Joveljic, who played with the Galaxy from 2021-24, was acquired by Seattle from Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 25.

The Galaxy’s Joao Klauss came on in the 67th minute in his first match since April 18 after undergoing foot surgery. To be able to activate Klauss, Los Angeles had to acquire a 2026 international roster slot from Minnesota United for $150,000 in general allocation money and a 2027 second-round draft pick.
