Lazaro Montes homered leading off the top of the ninth, J.P. Crawford also went deep and the Seattle Mariners beat the host Colorado Rockies 5-4 in Denver on Friday night.

Randy Arozarena finished with three hits, Carlos Vargas (2-0) recorded one out for the win for Seattle (72-82) and Andres Munoz earned his 28th save.

With the game tied 4-all, Montes launched a 426-foot homer into the second deck in right field off Jordan Romano (0-4). Cole Carrigg led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and stole second but was caught stealing third. Munoz then fanned Mickey Moniak to end the game.

Carrigg, Connor Norby and Jake McCarthy had three hits apiece and Ezequiel Tovar contributed two hits for Colorado (56-98).

Down 3-2, the Rockies rallied in the sixth. Tovar reached on a one-out single, chasing starter Bryan Woo, and then stole second against reliever Gabriel Speier. McCarthy tripled to center to tie it and scored on Norby’s single to give Colorado the lead.

Seattle tied it in the seventh when Michael Arroyo, who led off with a double, scored on Dominic Canzone’s sacrifice fly.

Woo allowed three runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Mariners jumped on Colorado starter Gabriel Hughes in the first inning. Crawford hit his 18th career leadoff homer to open the night and Arozarena and Canzone hit consecutive doubles to put runners on second and third.

Hughes struck out the next two before Josh Naylor ripped a single to right to drive in two runs. The rookie right-hander settled down after that single, retiring 11 in a row until a one-out walk to Brock Rodden in the fifth. He left after Arozarena’s two-out infield single.

Hughes allowed three runs on five hits and fanned six in 4 2/3 innings.

The Rockies answered with a run in the bottom of the first on Carrigg’s RBI single but squandered a leadoff triple from Moniak in the second. They scored again with two outs in the fourth when Tovar doubled and came home on McCarthy’s single.
