Mike Malott of Canada used dangerous striking to secure a second-round technical knockout win over Joaquin Buckley of St. Louis in the UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday in Edmonton.
A knee that knocked Buckley’s mouthpiece out was followed by a thunderous body kick that sent Buckley face-first to the canvas, ending the welterweight non-title five-rounder at 2:32.
“I’m on top of the world right now, man,” Malott said following the victory.
Malott (15-2-1 MMA) extended his winning streak to five matches, and he has eight welterweight wins since 2022. Buckley (21-9 MMA) has lost three straight since his last victory in December 2024.
The co-main event saw Canada’s Jasmine Jasudavicius move one step closer to a UFC flyweight title shot, defeating Erin Blanchfield by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) with dominant wrestling and several submission attempts over 15 minutes.
Jasudavicius (16-4 MMA) has won seven of her past eight bouts. She handed Blanchfield (14-3 MMA) her second UFC loss since making her promotional debut in 2021.
UFC Edmonton, which featured 12 Canadians in a 13-fight card, opened the main card with four straight finishes.
In lightweight action, Canada’s Mandel Nallo (15-4 MMA) utilized his unorthodox striking ability and leg kicks to finish Nate Landwehr (18-9 MMA) by TKO just 47 seconds into the second round.
Nevada’s Timmy Cuamba (11-4 MMA) defeated Canadian Louis Jourdain (9-4 MMA) with a second-round neck crank at 2:48 in a bantamweight bout.
The Canadian momentum returned as long-time UFC middleweight veteran Marc-Andre Barriault (18-11 MMA) secured a first-round TKO win over Kyle Daukaus (17-6 MMA) at 4:28. Barriault handed Daukaus his second straight loss while Barriault earned his first UFC win since a May 2025 TKO stoppage against Bruno Silva at in May 2025.
The knockouts kept coming as one of the UFC’s newest signees, Cristian Perez of Mexico, needed only 27 seconds to earn a first-round victory against Kyle Nelson in a lightweight bout. Perez (16-2 MMA) graduated from Dana White’s Contender Series’ 10th season by defeating Logan Paxton in August to earn a contract. Nelson (17-8-1 MMA) lost for the third time in his past four fights.
The UFC’s international flair continues next Saturday from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with UFC 333, capped off by a championship doubleheader. Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski will put his welterweight title on the line against Russia’s Movsar Evloev, and Russia’s Petr Yan and Georgia’s Merab Dvalishvili will contest a bantamweight trilogy fight. Yan won the title from Dvalishvili last December at UFC 323 in Las Vegas.
