Dor Turgeman scored twice and Daniel Gazdag netted a late winning goal as the New England Revolution pulled out a 3-2 win over the New York Red Bulls Wednesday night in Foxborough, Mass.
The victory marked the fourth straight win for New England (18-10-4, 58 points), keeping the Revolution in second place in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville SC, who have clinched the Supporters’ Shield
With the loss, the Red Bulls (11-15-6, 39 points) saw their playoff hopes take a hit. They trail the Columbus Crew by two points for the East’s ninth and final spot.
Gazdag scored the winner for New England in the 83rd minute to break a 2-2 draw with his second goal of the season, finishing a rebound after Ethan Horvath made the initial save of Peyton Miller’s shot.
The winner came after a stellar day in front of goal for Turgeman, who made it 1-0 for the Revolution with a right-footed strike from outside the box in the ninth minute off a layoff pass from Carles Gil.
Gil’s assist brought him to 13 on the season and the 100th of his MLS career, making him the eighth player in league history to reach the milestone.
The Revolution added to their lead right out of the halftime break when Luca Langoni sent a ball across the 6-yard box to Turgeman, who completed his brace with his fifth goal in four games to double the lead.
Cade Cowell cut New York’s deficit to a single goal in the 51st minute with a solo run capped with a left-footed shot past Turner for his third goal of the season. Teenage sensation Julian Hall leveled the game in the 64th minute with a calm finish for his 12th goal of the season.
The Red Bulls finished with more shots (19-9) and more shots on target (11-4), but New England’s Matt Turner delivered a strong eight-save performance to secure all three points for the home side.
