The Athletics placed utility player Zack Gelof on the 10-day injured list Thursday and recalled infielder Alika Williams from Triple-A Las Vegas.
The move involving Gelof is made retroactive to Wednesday, one day after he sustained a right-hand contusion after being stepped on by San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman during a play at second base.
Gelof’s exit in the second inning brought an end to his 24-game hitting streak and 27-game on-base streak.
Gelof, 26, is batting .282 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs in 62 games since being recalled from Las Vegas on April 10.
Williams, 27, returns to the Athletics after being optioned to Las Vegas on Sunday.
He batted.289 (13-for-45) with one homer and five RBIs in 23 games with the Athletics.
