Brewers blast Dodgers to avoid sweep

brewers

Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins each had three hits — including a home run — and three RBIs to help the visiting Milwaukee Brewers avoid a three-game sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 9-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

Eric Haase also homered and scored twice for Milwaukee, which ended a three-game skid.

Brewers starter Dallas Keuchel threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his third outing since he was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on June 25. The 2015 AL Cy Young winner allowed three hits, walked five and did not record a strikeout.

Jakob Junis (1-0) gave up two runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.

Chris Taylor hit a two-run blast and Miguel Rojas had two doubles to lead Los Angeles.

Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski (0-1) made his major-league debut in a spot start and the left-hander allowed four runs and five hits in five innings, striking out four and walking two.

Wrobleski, who will turn 24 on July 14, blanked the Brewers through the first three innings before walking Jackson Chourio to lead off the fourth. Chourio stole second and was still there when Yelich belted a slider over the fence in straightaway center for a 2-0 lead.

Yelich also homered in the 5-3 loss to the Dodgers on Saturday.

The bottom of the order came through for Milwaukee with two outs in the fifth when No. 8 hitter Vinny Capra doubled to left-center field for his first hit with the Brewers since he was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Haase, who was recalled from Nashville last week, then hit an opposite-field line drive that hit the top of the right-field fence and bounced over for another two-run homer and a 4-0 lead.

The Dodgers stranded the bases loaded in the third inning and left two more runners in both the fourth and fifth. After Rojas doubled to lead off the sixth, Taylor came through with his two-run homer, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

Perkins went deep down the left-field line to lead off the seventh and extend the lead to 5-2.

Milwaukee loaded the bases with one out in the eighth and Perkins delivered a two-run single to push the visitors ahead 7-2.

The Brewers tacked on two more runs in the ninth on RBIs doubles by Yelich and Garrett Mitchell to make it 9-2.
