The St. Louis Cardinals placed Ivan Herrera on the 10-day injured list with lower back tightness on Saturday and recalled fellow catcher Nick Raposo from Triple-A Memphis.
The move for Herrera is retroactive to Wednesday, one day after the last game in which he played.
Herrera, 24, is batting .279 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 54 games this season.
Raposo, 26, will make his major league debut when he appears in a game for the Cardinals. He is batting .187 with five homers and 22 RBIs in 47 games this season with Memphis.
Also on Saturday, the Cardinals transferred right-hander Keynan Middleton from the 15-day to 60-day injured list.
Middleton, 30, underwent surgery to repair his flexor tendon earlier this month and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
