Coby Mayo hit a tie-breaking three-run inside-the-park home run in the 11th inning Tuesday night for the visiting Baltimore Orioles, who stormed back to beat the New York Mets 7-5 in the middle game of a three-game interleague series.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeremiah Jackson homered in the second then Ex-Mets slugger Pete Alonso tied the game in the ninth with his 300th career homer for the Orioles (74-78), who are three games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final American League postseason spot.
Mets relievers Austin Warren, Nate Lavender and Kodai Senga nursed a 3-2 lead by combining to retire eight straight batters in relief of Sean Manaea before Alonso’s milestone homer, which earned him a curtain call from the Citi Field crowd.
Alonso played for the Mets from 2019 through 2025 and is their all-time home run leader (264).
Encarnacion-Strand scored on a wild pitch in the 10th to give the Orioles a short-lived lead. Marcus Semien had an RBI double in the bottom of the 10th before Mayo raced around the bases after A.J. Ewing crashed into the wall in pursuit of his blast to straightaway center off Jonathan Pintaro (2-2).
Alex Hoppe (1-1) allowed an unearned run in the 10th. Andrew Kittredge gave up an RBI single to Bo Bichette in the 11th before locking down his 10th save by retiring Carson Benge on a fly to deep center.
Benge hit a solo homer in the third for the Mets (69-82), who fell to 22-16 since the Aug. 3 trade deadline. Juan Soto was 2-for-5 with an RBI while Jared Young doubled and lofted a sacrifice fly. Bichette had three hits.
Orioles starter Shane Baz gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings. He departed after being hit on the left arm by Bichette’s leadoff comebacker in the fifth.
Manaea allowed two runs and four hits while walking none and striking out six over 5 1/3 innings.
