Corey Seager, Rangers send White Sox to 10th straight loss

Corey Seager

Corey Seager belted a solo homer to highlight his four-hit performance and Nathaniel Lowe drove in four runs, fueling the Texas Rangers to a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas.

Texas’ Adolis Garcia ripped an RBI double in the fifth inning as part of a three-hit effort that included a run-scoring groundout in the eighth. Robbie Grossman homered to lead off the eighth inning and Josh Smith drove in two runs for the Rangers, who have won four in a row and 11 of their past 15 games.

Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi (7-4) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters in seven innings. He didn’t issue a walk.

Jose Leclerc struck out the side in the eighth before Texas erupted for six runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Lowe’s three-run shot.

Luis Robert Jr. belted a solo homer and Nicky Lopez had an RBI single for the White Sox, who struck out 13 times en route to losing their 10th game in a row.

Texas erased a one-run deficit in the fifth inning when Seager ripped a leadoff double and came around to score on Garcia’s two-out double. That chased Chicago starter Chris Flexen (2-10). The Rangers then seized a 3-2 lead when Lowe’s single to center field off Sammy Peralta allowed Garcia to score following a throwing error by Robert.

Flexen yielded three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. He is 0-7 in 14 starts since last recording a win on May 8.

Texas opened the scoring with one out in the first inning when Seager sent a 2-1 cutter from Flexen over the wall in right field. The homer was Seager’s team-leading 19th of the season and his first since July 12.

The White Sox responded quickly as Lopez’s RBI single to right field forged a tie in the second inning before Robert added his 12th homer of the season in the third. Robert deposited a first-pitch curveball from Eovaldi over the wall in left field to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.
