Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford power Rangers past Angels

Rangers, Angels

Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford each homered and doubled, Nathaniel Lowe had three hits and the Texas Rangers routed the Los Angeles Angels 9-4 on Monday in Anaheim, Calif.

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a walk for the Rangers, who finished with 12 hits against Angels starter Davis Daniel (1-2) and three relievers.

Rangers starter Jon Gray (4-4) had a hiccup in the second inning when he allowed three runs, but gave up nothing else in five-plus innings. He gave up five hits and one walk while striking out two and making 78 pitches as Texas won its fourth game in a row.

Mickey Moniak amassed two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Angels, who lost for the seventh time in eight games. Brandon Drury also had two hits.

The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Daniel when Semien led off with a single and scored on Seager’s two-run homer. Both Semien and Seager got their hits on 0-2 counts, and Seager’s blast was estimated at 457 feet, the longest home run by a Ranger this season.

It was Seager’s 17th homer of the season.

The Angels rallied against Gray in the second inning. Logan O’Hoppe singled with one out and went to second on a single by Drury.

Moniak followed with a two-run triple, and Moniak scored on a single by Jo Adell, the Angels taking a 3-2 lead.

Daniel, however, could not hold the lead and was knocked out of the game in the fourth inning. The Rangers scored five runs in the frame, Daniel allowing five hits while also hitting a batter with a pitch and committing a balk.

The tying run came home on the balk. Lowe followed with a go-ahead single, and three batters later, Leody Taveras delivered an RBI single. After Taveras stole second, Semien’s two-run base hit to left knocked in two, making it 7-3 and driving Daniel from the contest.

In all, Daniel allowed seven runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. He fanned three without issuing a walk.

Texas added to its lead in the seventh inning after Seager led off with a double. One out later, Langford homered off Angels reliever Carson Fulmer, Langford’s fifth of the season.

The Angels finished with eight hits, including an RBI single from Anthony Rendon in his first game since April 20. He came off the injured list pregame, having recovered from a partially torn left hamstring.
