Luis Garcia Jr. homered twice and drove in five runs to propel the Washington Nationals to a 6-4 road victory against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.
Garcia finished with three of Washington’s seven hits as the Nationals captured the final two games of the three-game series.
Garcia’s 15th and 16th long balls of the season came in the fifth and seventh innings. He also went deep Saturday night.
Zack Littell (7-6) worked five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. He broke a personal two-game losing streak.
Mitchell Parker, Richard Lovelady and PJ Poulin pitched in relief for Washington. Poulin covered two hitless innings for his third save.
The Orioles threatened in the ninth with Coby Mayo’s one-out walk, but pinch hitter Leody Taveras grounded into a double play to end the game.
Pete Alonso and Jackson Holliday hit two-run homers for the Orioles, who’ve lost four of their last five games. Colton Cowser added two hits for Baltimore, which was limited to five hits.
Baltimore starter Kyle Bradish (5-8) was charged with four runs (three earned) in four innings. He surrendered one hit, but he walked five with two strikeouts.
Garcia doubled in two runs in the third and blasted his first homer of the day in the fifth. Relievers Tyler Ward and Albert Suarez yielded the home runs.
The Orioles struck first after Littell retired the first two batters in the bottom of the first. Adley Rutschman reached on a single and Alonso followed with his 19th homer of the season.
Rutschman played his first game since June 18 as he had been in the concussion protocol.
Holliday’s two-run shot with two outs in the seventh off Parker cut Baltimore’s deficit to 6-4.
The Nationals have won consecutive games for the first time since a four-game winning streak ended June 17.
