The Miami Marlins named former major league player and manager Gabe Kapler as their general manager on Monday.

Kapler most recently was assistant general manager of the club, focusing on player, coaching and staff development. Prior to that, he served as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies (2018-19) and San Francisco Giants (2020-23).

He also spent three years (2015-17) as the director of player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he worked with current Marlins manager Clayton McCullough.

“It is an exciting time to be part of the Marlins organization, and I am ready to continue the great work we are doing here,” Kapler said of the baseball operations staff. “The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture and an incredible team working together toward a shared goal. I’m proud to help continue that progress and contribute to what’s ahead.”

In 2025, four Miami minor league affiliates reached the postseason, a first in club history. Jacksonville won the Triple-A National Championship.

Additionally, the Marlins announced Frankie Piliere as vice president, amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives, and Vinesh Kanthan as senior director, baseball operations.

“These three leaders have each made a meaningful impact since joining our team, exemplifying the values that define our culture: driving innovation across every area of the team, leading with a forward-thinking mindset, and elevating those around them as great teammates,” said Peter Bendix, president of baseball operations, said in a news release. “Their advancement is a testament to the caliber of talent and person within our organization and our continued commitment to building a culture of collaboration and excellence.”

Kapler, 50, was an outfielder for six teams over his 12-year career. A lifetime .268 hitter, he was part of the Boston Red Sox team that won the 2004 World Series.

The Marlins open the 2026 season at home against the Colorado Rockies on March 26.
