Matt Chapman hit San Francisco’s first inside-the-park homer in seven-plus years and Michael Conforto and Casey Schmitt hit conventional homers to help the San Francisco Giants record a 6-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night at Phoenix.

Chapman added an RBI triple to go with his two-run homer as San Francisco (78-79) improved to 6-1 on its nine-game road trip. Conforto and Mark Canha joined Chapman with two hits apiece.

Geraldo Perdomo had two hits and an RBI for Arizona (87-70), which lost its second straight contest following a four-game winning streak.

The Diamondbacks fell into third place in the National League wild-card chase, a half-game behind the New York Mets. Arizona is 1 1/2 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the final spot.

Hayden Birdsong (5-5) allowed two runs and four hits over five innings for the Giants. He struck out six and walked two. Four relievers followed, with Ryan Walker throwing a perfect ninth for his 10th save.

Arizona’s Eduardo Rodriguez (3-4) served up all three San Francisco homers despite striking out eight in 4 2/3 innings. He gave up five runs, seven hits and three walks.

Chapman’s inside-the-park homer highlighted a three-run third inning.

Heliot Ramos singled with one out and scored on a double by Jerar Encarnacion to tie the score at 1.

One out later, Chapman hammered a shot to left-center. Arizona’s Jake McCarthy crashed into the wall while making an unsuccessful attempt to catch the ball as it rolled into deep center field.

Chapman kept running and beat the relay throw to post San Francisco’s first inside-the-park since Denard Span had one on Aug. 19, 2017, against the Philadelphia Phillies. It was Chapman’s 27th homer of the season.

Arizona got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Christian Walker’s RBI double scored Corbin Carroll.

Schmitt drilled a cutter from Rodriguez over the wall in left in the fourth to give the Giants a 4-2 lead. The homer was Schmitt’s sixth of the season.

One inning later, Conforto walloped a fastball into the right-center field seats beyond the pool for a three-run lead. It was Conforto’s 19th homer.

Sam Francisco made it 6-2 in the seventh as Conforto doubled with one out and scored on Chapman’s triple off the center field wall. McCarthy again came up empty on a leaping attempt.

According to MLB.com, Chapman is the first Giant since Monte Irvin on July 18, 1953, to log an inside-the-park homer and a triple in a single game.

The Diamondbacks crept within three in the bottom of the seventh as Jose Herrera led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Perdomo’s one-out single.

Perdomo and Joc Pederson stroked back-to-back doubles for a first-inning run.
