The Washington Nationals activated right-hander Jordan Weems from the 15-day injured list Saturday and recalled shortstop Jose Tena from Triple-A Rochester.
In corresponding moves, third baseman Trey Lipscomb and right-hander Joan Adon were optioned to Rochester.
Weems, 31, has been out since July 26 because of shin splints. He is 1-1 with a 6.59 ERA in 40 relief appearances this season. In five major league seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2020-21), Arizona Diamondbacks (2021) and Nationals, he is 6-4 with a 5.23 ERA in 139 relief appearances.
Tena, 23, was one of three players acquired by the Nationals on July 29 from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for outfielder Lane Thomas. He played in 21 games for the Guardians over the past two seasons, going 7-for-35 (.200).
Lipscomb, 24, made his major league debut March 30 and was batting .207 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 58 games. Adon, 25, had a 6.48 ERA in six appearances (one start) this season.
