Orioles lean into offense, salvage final game of series vs. Rangers

Leody Taveras, Taylor Ward and Jeremiah Jackson drove in two runs each and the Baltimore Orioles turned strong offensive production into an 8-3 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers to salvage the final game of a three-game series Wednesday afternoon.

Dylan Beavers and Samuel Basallo both hit solo home runs. Beavers finished with three this and three runs scored.

The Orioles received another strong start from pitcher Trevor Rogers, who worked six innings and allowed two runs on six hits and one walk.

Corey Seager homered for the Rangers, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Texas third baseman Josh Jung delivered his first hits of the season, after an 0-for-18 start, with a pair of singles.

Rogers (2-0), who also was the winning pitcher in the season opener against the Minnesota Twins, had three strikeouts. The Rangers’ Albert Suarez gave up a run in the ninth before recording his first save.

Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi (0-2) was charged with six runs on eight hits in four innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

Orioles hitters struck out seven times, but they also worked for six walks. Six different Baltimore players scored a run, although the two players – Ward and Gunnard Henderson – at the top of the batting order didn’t cross the plate.

Taveras and Jackson delivered out of the last two spots in the Orioles order, with Taveras adding two hits and two walks.

Ward had an RBI double during the Orioles’ two-run second inning. Tavaras smashed a two-run double in the third inning.

The Rangers fought back to make it 4-2 in the third on RBI singles from Jung and Ezequiel Duran.

But Basallo’s homer, Jackson’s single and Ward’s sacrifice fly all resulted in runs in the bottom of the fifth for Baltimore. Beavers homered in the sixth.

Seager’s second home run of the series came in the eighth.

The Rangers wrapped up a season-opening six-game road trip. The Orioles completed their first six games at home.
