Report: Mets 1B Pete Alonso (hand) avoids fracture

alonso

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is day-to-day after a CT scan on his right hand showed no broken bones, SNY reported Thursday.

Alonso left Wednesday’s 10-3 home loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first inning after he was hit by a pitch from left-hander James Paxton.

Alonso checked his swing on the pitch and initially appeared to foul the ball off. But he yelled in pain and fell to his knees before getting back up. He was visited by a trainer before exiting and being replaced by a pinch runner.

Alonso, 29, has started each of the club’s 55 games this season and has played in all but 24 of New York’s 763 regular-season games since he reached the majors in 2019.

He is batting .231 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs this season. A three-time All-Star and the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year, he is a career .249 hitter with 204 homers and 524 RBIs.
