Streaking Brewers take aim at Logan Webb, reeling Giants

The visiting San Francisco Giants hope right-hander Logan Webb continues his career-long success against the Milwaukee Brewers when the teams meet on Wednesday.

Webb (2-4, 4.82 ERA) will be making his second start since coming off the injured list after missing 20 games with right knee bursitis.

Milwaukee has not named a starter for Wednesday’s game, but manager Pat Murphy indicated that the Brewers might be making a transaction.

Milwaukee won its second straight game in the series with an 8-3 victory on Tuesday night. Jake Bauers set the tone with a three-run homer and Kyle Harrison allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings against his former team, matching his career high with 12 strikeouts.

Milwaukee, which leads the NL Central by 5 1/2 games, has won seven of its last eight games and 19 of its last 24 to move a season-high 16 games over .500.

The Giants, in turn, have lost seven of their last eight games and 14 of their last 19.

“I know the kid pitching tomorrow has shoved it up our (rear) many times,” Murphy said following Tuesday’s game. “They’ve got some really good people.

“”It’s early in the season, it’s early. What month are we in? June, right? June, we’re 60 games in. There’s a lot of baseball.”

Webb allowed one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings in his return last Friday, a no-decision in an 8-6 loss at Colorado. He struck out five and walked three in an 86-pitch outing and committed one throwing error that did not cost him a run.

“I wish I pitched a little bit better — the walks kind of stink, the throw was awful, but for the most part it’s probably the best I’ve felt physically all season, which is a step in the right direction,” Webb said. “Stuff was good. The velo was better. I just got to attack more, and I know it’s a hard place, because stuff doesn’t move the exact same here, but I’ve played here long enough to know that I’ve got to make an adjustment.”

Webb has dominated the Brewers throughout his career, going 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA in seven career starts versus Milwaukee. He won both his starts against the Brewers last season, allowing one run in 12 1/3 innings.

Webb is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in four career starts at American Family Field.

Willy Adames, who played for Milwaukee from 2021-24, got the Giants on the board Tuesday night with a solo homer. Adames is batting .326 with six homers, six doubles, a triple and 18 RBIs over his last 22 games.

Despite Bauers’ team-high 10th home run, the Brewers are last in the majors with 41 homers. But Milwaukee is 31-4 when scoring four or more runs, and 8-17 when scoring three or fewer.

Bauers is batting .320 over his last 21 game with five homers, five doubles and 17 RBIs.
