Colson Montgomery and Junior Perez homered during Chicago’s seven-run third inning as the visiting White Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-3 on Tuesday night.

Jacob Gonzalez had three hits and drove in three runs and Andrew Benintendi provided three hits. Tristan Peters added two hits and scored twice as Chicago won for the sixth time in its last eight games.

By winning on back-to-back nights, the White Sox will win a series against Baltimore for the first time since July 2021 regardless of the result of Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.

Erick Fedde (3-6) picked up the victory, going five innings and yielding three runs on five hits, striking out and walking three apiece.

Tyler Schweitzer pitched the final four innings for the rookie’s first career save, striking out three without a walk and allowing four hits.

Gunnar Henderson had two hits and scored two runs and Blaze Alexander and Samuel Basallo each notched two hits for the Orioles, whose losing streak grew to four games. They have lost six of their last seven games.

Orioles starter Trey Gibson (1-3) was dinged for eight runs on seven hits and six walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

The White Sox scored on Benintendi’s first-inning double to open the scoring. The Orioles countered in the bottom of the inning on Basallo’s run-scoring single.

Chicago was back on top on Montgomery’s two-run homer, which also drove in Benintendi, in the third. The White Sox kept going, with Gonzalez driving in two runs with a single before Perez’s three-run shot.

Gonzalez, who had his second three-RBI game in as many nights, doubled in a fourth-inning run with two outs.

Dylan Beavers’s RBI double and Pete Alonso’s RBI single drove in Baltimore runs in the fifth.

The White Sox finished with 11 hits, though they didn’t score after the fourth inning. Chicago batters struck out 13 times.
