Zech Neto joins exclusive club as Angels top White Sox in 13

White Sox, Angels

Jordyn Adams hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 13th inning, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox in the rubber game of their three-game series on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif.

With automatic runner Eric Wagaman on third base, Adams’ hard grounder on 1-0 slider by reliever Jairo Iriarte (0-1) against a drawn-in infield deflected off third baseman Miguel Vargas’ glove into the hole at short for his first career walk-off hit.

It marked the 117th loss for Chicago (36-117), tying the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics (36-117-1) for the third most losses in a season in modern major league history and just three shy of the major league record of 120 held by the 1962 New York Mets. It was also the 10th walk-off loss of the season for the White Sox.

Zach Neto became the third player in Angels franchise history to have 20 home runs, 30 doubles and 30 stolen bases in a season when he stole second for his 30th steal in the eighth. Neto, who has 21 home runs and 31 doubles, joined Devon White (1987) and Mike Trout (2013, 2016) to accomplish the feat.

Jose Quijada (2-0) picked up the win for Los Angeles (62-90) with a scoreless inning of relief. Gustavo Campero went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Andrew Vaughn hit a home run and Lenyn Sosa had two hits for Chicago.

Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Vaughn led off with his 19th homer, a 392-foot drive into the bullpen in left.

Los Angeles tied it at 1 in the eighth against reliever Justin Anderson. Neto led off with a pinch-hit walk then stole second. He then tagged and advanced to third on a Gustavo Campero flyout and scored when Taylor Ward lined a single off the glove of shortstop Nicky Lopez with the infield drawn in.

The White Sox took a 2-1 lead in the 10th when automatic runner Korey Lee was sacrificed to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Vargas.

The Angels tied it the bottom half. Adams, the automatic runner, was sacrificed to third by Neto and then scored on a line drive single to left by Campero.

Chicago regained the lead at 3-2 in the 11th on a two-out single to right by Andrew Benintendi, driving in automatic runner Jacob Amaya from second.

But Los Angeles tied it in the bottom half on an RBI single by Wagaman, driving in automatic runner Mickey Moniak, who pinch-ran for Brandon Drury.
