Casemiro scored in his third consecutive match to help visiting Inter Miami record a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire on Wednesday.
The Brazilian star headed home a corner kick from superstar Lionel Messi for the equalizer in the 48th minute.
An announced crowd of 63,094 watched the match at Soldier Field, a club record attendance for the Fire.
Casemiro’s tally came one minute following a goal-saving clearance by Chicago defender Noah Allen on an attempt by German Berterame. Allen played 90 league matches for Inter Miami before he was loaned to the Fire last week.
Dayne St. Clair finished with two saves for Inter Miami (12-4-8, 44 points), who are 1-2-4 over their past seven matches.
Chicago’s Robert Lewandowski continued his goal-scoring barrage by converting in the 10th minute. The 38-year-old has scored a goal in each of his last three matches to boost his total to six in nine MLS appearances.
Andrew Gutman and Robin Lod each notched an assist and Chris Brady turned aside six shots for the Fire (11-6-6, 39 points), who recorded their fourth straight draw to extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches (3-0-4).
Gutman deftly changed directions to gain space on Inter Miami’s Ian Fray before sending a cross toward the back post that Lewandowski converted by elevating his right leg.
Messi tried to respond with a shot from outside the box in the 23rd minute, resulting in an easy save by Brady.
The Chicago goalkeeper made a tougher stop on Messi in the 41st minute. Messi eluded Chicago’s D’Avilla Dje Tah before unleashing a shot from the top of the box.
