Charlotte FC signed forward Kerwin Vargas to a new contract through the 2027 MLS season.
The extension announced Thursday includes an option for 2028 for the 22-year-old Colombian.
Vargas has two goals in 10 starts this season. He has recorded six goals and six assists in 52 MLS matches (36 starts) since arriving in 2022.
“We’re excited to secure Kerwin’s long-term future with Charlotte FC and sign him to a new contract that will begin in 2025,” general manager Zoran Krneta said in a news release. “Since signing with us as a 20-year-old, Kerwin has earned his place as a valuable member of our attack and received his first call-up to the Colombia youth national team.”
Vargas will no longer occupy a U22 Initiative roster slot once his new deal goes into effect in 2025. He is the first player from the initiative to re-sign with Charlotte.
“I am really happy to be staying with Charlotte FC,” Vargas said. “I think it’s a great organization and club to be with, and I am extremely happy to be here and for what’s to come.”
