Jay Fortune entered in the 67th minute and scored an equalizer in the 74th minute for Atlanta United, who played visiting New York City FC to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening.
Atlanta (7-14-6, 27 points) failed to pick up its second straight win but stretched their unbeaten streak to three matches (1-0-2).
New York City (8-10-9, 33 points) played to a second straight winless result.
With Atlanta facing a 2-1 deficit, Fortune pulled his team level just moments after coming in off the bench.
After Luke Brennan delivered a ball inside the penalty area to Tristan Muyumba, Muyumba settled the ball and played it back to Fortune, who struck it first-time past NYCFC goalkeeper Tomas Romero to make it 2-2. It was his third goal of the season.
Fortune’s goal cancelled out Andres Perea’s go-ahead tally in the 57th minute. Agustin Ojeda’s pass from the right side of the box found the run of Perea, who drilled it past Hoyos to make it 2-1.
A self-inflicted error saw Atlanta United fall behind in the fifth minute. Ojeda worked his way into the box and slid a cross in front of the net. It deflected off the foot of Matt Edwards and past Atlanta goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos as NYCFC took a 1-0 lead.
But Atlanta leveled the match in the 10th minute on a corner-kick routine. Elias Baez’s delivery was headed by Enea Mihaj and into the path of Tomas Jacob. Jacob’s pass across found Giuliano Galoppo, who made no mistake with the near-post finish to tie it at 1-1.
Despite NYCFC pulling ahead once more in the second half, Atlanta’s goal with just over 20 minutes remaining meant the two teams would walk off the pitch with a point apiece.
Atlanta put five shots on target to New York City’s three. Romero made three saves while Hoyos finished with two of his own.
Atlanta’s Daniel Chica (55th minute) and Cameron Dunbar (85th minute) each made their MLS debuts.
