New York Red Bulls defender Tim Parker announced Friday that he will retire at the end of this season, ending a 12-year MLS career.
Parker, 33, is scheduled to play his final match when his team hosts the Atlanta United for Saturday’s Decision Day contest.
“I’ve decided that the time has come to retire from professional soccer,” Parker said. “This game has given me more than I ever could have imagined, and I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity, every challenge, and every person who has been part of this journey.”
Parker is in his second stint with New York (2018-20, 2025-26) and also played for the Vancouver Whitecaps (2015-17), Houston Dynamo (2021-22), St. Louis City (2023-24) and the New England Revolution (2024).
He helped the Red Bulls win the Supporters’ Shield in 2018 and was an MLS All-Star and Best XI selection with St. Louis City in 2023.
“I’ve been fortunate to represent some incredible clubs, play alongside amazing teammates, and build relationships that will last a lifetime,” Parker said. “I’m especially thankful to the coaches, staff, supporters, and everyone behind the scenes who helped me along the way. To my family, thank you for the sacrifices, support, and belief in me through every high and low. None of this would have been possible without you.”
Parker has recorded seven goals and four assists in 303 regular-season appearances, including 280 starts.
“Tim has been an outstanding professional throughout his career, and someone who has earned the respect of everyone he has played with and worked alongside. His leadership, professionalism, commitment, and passion for the game have made him an important figure at every club he has represented,” Red Bulls head of sport Julian de Guzman said.
“He has always led by example, and his impact extends well beyond what he has accomplished on the field. We congratulate him on an excellent career and thank him for everything he has given to the game. We wish Tim and his family nothing but the best in this next chapter.”
