Trail Blazers overcome Stephen Curry (48 points), Warriors

Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe scored 35 points apiece and the host Portland Trail Blazers withstood 48 points from Stephen Curry to notch a 136-131 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.

Deni Avdija added 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the Trail Blazers won for just the second time in the past eight games. Grant made seven 3-pointers and Sharpe knocked down five as Portland shot 51.3% (20 of 39) from 3-point range.

Curry was 12 of 19 from 3-point range, falling one shy of his career best set early in the 2016-17 season. He also was one point short of his season high.

Curry is averaging 43.5 points and has made 18 3-pointers over the past two games after sitting out five in a row due to a quadriceps injury.

Jimmy Butler III added 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Warriors, who have lost eight of their past 12 games. Draymond Green had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals but committed eight of Golden State’s 18 turnovers.

Golden State was 24 of 47 (51.1%) from 3-point range.

Curry’s 11th 3-pointer gave the Warriors a 124-121 lead with 3:11 left in regulation. He drove for a hoop 39 seconds later to push the lead to five.

Grant buried a trey and Avdija converted a three-point play as Portland moved ahead by one with 1:53 left.

But Curry hit trey No. 12 with 1:26 remaining to give the Warriors a 129-127 lead.

Grant’s three-point play gave Portland a one-point edge with 1:11 to play. Avdija made two free throws with 19 seconds left to give the Trail Blazers a 132-129 lead.

Toumani Camara forced Curry into a turnover with 15 seconds to play and Sharpe made two free throws with 14 seconds left to boost the lead to five and Portland closed it out.

Both teams shot 50.6% overall from the field.

Curry scored all the Golden State points during a 10-3 run to open the fourth quarter as the Warriors took a 109-99 advantage.

Grant then scored eight points during a 12-0 burst as Portland took a 111-109 edge with 7:24 to play.

Curry drained another 3-pointer to give Golden State a 115-113 lead with 6:07 remaining.

Curry buried three 3-pointers in a span of 73 seconds to give the Warriors a 79-70 lead with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter.

Curry drained another 3-pointer — this one from 32 feet — to make it 86-79 with 5:53 left.

Golden State took a 99-96 lead into the final quarter despite Sharpe scoring 16 points in the third.

Curry scored 15 points as Golden State led 62-61 at the break. Sharpe had 15 points, Grant 13 and Avdija 12 in the half for the Trail Blazers.
