Aaron Rodgers looks to future: ‘I’ll retire a Packer’

In advance of his reunion with the Packers on Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers made it clear that he intends to end his NFL career back in Green Bay.

“I was there for 18 years,” Rodgers told ESPN on Thursday regarding his stint with the Packers. “Regardless of when I hang it up, that’s the bulk of my career. I’ll retire a Packer and see what happens after that.”

Rodgers, 41, was the Packers’ first-round draft pick in 2005, and he remained in Green Bay through 2022. He guided the Packers to the Super Bowl title after the 2010 season.

Green Bay dealt Rodgers to the New York Jets ahead of the 2023 season, in which the quarterback tore his left Achilles tendon in the opener and missed the rest of the year.

He had a mediocre season with the Jets in 2024, then signed as a free agent with the Steelers this summer. Pittsburgh is off to a 4-2 start ahead of the Sunday night game against the Packers (4-1-1).

“I don’t have any animosity toward the (Green Bay) organization,” Rodgers said on Thursday. “Obviously, I wish that things had been better in our last year there, but I have a great relationship with a lot of people still in that organization, and this is not a revenge game for me. I’m just excited to see some of those guys and be on ‘Sunday Night Football’ again.”

Rodgers leads the NFL this season in percentage of passes that results in touchdowns (8.1%), as he has 14 TD tosses and five interceptions. He has connected on 68.6% of his passes for 1,270 yards.

The four-time MVP ranks fourth in NFL history with 517 TD passes, fifth with 64,222 passing yards, sixth with 5,487 completions and seventh with 8,417 pass attempts.

Rodgers previously stated that he expects 2025 to be his final NFL season.
