Chase Garbers connected with Cody Latimer from 10 yards out with three seconds to play to cap a wild comeback as the San Antonio Brahmas escaped with a 20-19 win against the Memphis Showboats on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.
With under a minute to play, the Brahmas had trailed 19-8, but a 5-yard touchdown from Garbers to Jontre Kirklin with 48 seconds left cut the margin to 19-14. The three-point attempt failed.
But San Antonio converted the fourth-and-12 after that to steal another possession (the UFL’s equivalent of an onside kick), and Garbers drove his squad down to the Memphis 10-yard line with 8 seconds left. On the final play, Garbers rolled right and found Latimer breaking open halfway through the end zone on a cross for the winning score.
The comeback came on the heels of a miserable offensive performance in the first half, in which the Brahmas managed just 27 total yards in falling behind 13-0.
Garbers connected with Marquez Stevenson for a 10-yard touchdown and with John Lovett on a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 16-8 in the third quarter.
Case Cookus threw a 2-yard touchdown to Daewood Davis to give Memphis a 7-0 lead, and Matt Coghlin added four field goals.
