Sylar Diggins had 24 points as the Chicago Sky overcame a 15-point first-half deficit to snap their five-game skid with Friday night’s 85-80 victory over the visiting Connecticut Sun.

Diggins scored 16 in the second quarter for the Sky (4-6), who trailed 25-11 after one period, but rallied thanks to 46.3% overall shooting and hitting five of their first 10 3-point attempts.

Natasha Cloud scored all 13 of her points in the second half, Azura Stevens finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Elizabeth Williams scored 10 as Chicago posted its first victory in five home tries.

Brittney Griner and Diamond Miller each scored 16 for the Sun (2-10), who went 4-of-18 from 3 to drop their fifth straight road game.

A Cloud 3-pointer put Chicago ahead 77-72 with 3:37 left in regulation, but the Sun scored the next four points before Diggins recorded a three-point play.

Connecticut then got within 80-79 on a 3 from Saniya Rivers (13 points) with 1:03 to go, but Williams scored the next four points to seal the contest for Chicago.

Trailing by two at halftime, the Sky took their first lead since 4-2 when Stevens knocked down a 3-pointer with 6:50 remaining in the third to make it 50-49. That began a 10-1 surge for Chicago, which got a combined five points from Diggins and Cloud to lead 57-50.

The Sun got within 58-56, but Cloud scored the next five points for the Sky, who took a 65-61 edge into the fourth.

Chicago trailed 34-19 early in the second quarter, but got back into the contest with a 12-3 surge, including seven points from Diggins. The Sky went 11 of 18 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, during a second quarter where they outscored the Sun 32-20.

Thanks to four straight made free throws from Diggins, Chicago scored eight of the half’s final 10 points to get within 45-43 at the break.

With the game tied 9-all, Miller scored the game’s next 12 points as part of a 14-0 Sun run. Miller, though, was held to one point in the second period.

This matchup was part of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup tournament.
