The Atlanta Dream will move five games of the upcoming WNBA season into the Atlanta Hawks’ State Farm Arena in anticipation of high ticket demand.

The Dream play most of their home games at the intimate 3,500-seat Gateway Center Arena in nearby College Park. The Hawks’ home arena has a capacity of 17,608 for basketball.

As of now, the number of games is the most scheduled at an alternate arena for a WNBA team this season.

The Dream will move their home opener May 17 against the Las Vegas Aces to the bigger venue, while both games against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, on June 20 and Aug. 16, also will be relocated. The two remaining games to be moved are against the expansion Toronto Tempo (June 22) and the Chicago Sky (Sept. 19).

Atlanta’s WNBA franchise shared the Hawks’ arena from 2008-16, and then again in 2019, before an agreement could not be worked out between the two franchises. The Dream have since been sharing the College Park location with the Hawks’ G League affiliate.

The Dream have lost in the first round of the playoffs each of the past three seasons after not advancing to the postseason from 2019-22. The team finished 30-14 last season and in first place in the Eastern Conference standings and third place in the overall league standings.
