On the day of Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon Tuesday, an opponent from her last Wimbledon appearance dug up some dirt about the tennis legend on social media.
Harmony Tan, who upset Williams in a three-plus-hour battle in the first round of the 2022 event in London, posted on her Instagram account that Williams blocked her on social media after the loss occurred.
“So 4 years ago after the handshake, she blocked me also on Instagram, btw,” Tan posted in an Instagram story accompanied by a sweating emoji and a laughing emoji.
Williams, 44, played her first grand-slam match since the 2022 U.S. Open on Tuesday after she was given a wild-card berth into Wimbledon. She fell 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 in a two-hour, 22-minute match against Australia’s Maya Joint.
Tan reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2022 after the defeat of Williams, the deepest major run of her career. The 28-year-old Frenchwoman hasn’t made the main draw of a Grand Slam since the 2022 U.S. Open, coming up one match short of making this year’s Wimbledon field when she lost to Italy’s Tyra Caterina Grant in the final round of qualifying.
That denied Tan the opportunity for a Wimbledon rematch with Williams.
“She’s a legend, you know? She can come back everywhere. I hope I can qualify and maybe play Serena for the first round,” Tan told WTA during the lead-up to Wimbledon.
