High-scoring forward Jason Robertson ended a contentious situation with the Dallas Stars and signed a one-year, $12 million contract on Tuesday evening.

Robertson was a restricted free agent who filed for salary arbitration prior to the league’s July 5 deadline.

The Stars offered the six-year veteran a $9.3 million qualifying offer, but the two sides agreed to the $12 million figure.

“Jason has been a cornerstone of our franchise since he was drafted in 2017,” general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. “A dynamic and skilled player, he has been one of the league’s top offensive threats since making his NHL debut. We’re excited for what this season will bring for both Jason and the team as we continue our push to bring a championship to Dallas.”

Robertson had rejected an eight-year sign-and-trade deal with the Seattle Kraken last month that would have netted him $15 million per year.

Robertson, who will turn 27 on Wednesday, scored 45 goals — one shy of his career high — and added 51 assists in the 2025-26 season. He has played in all 82 games for the Stars in the last four seasons.

In 456 career games, Robertson has scored 213 goals and added 277 assists, good for 490 points. He earned NHL First Team All-Star honors in 2022-23 — when he amassed career highs in goals (46), assists (63) and points (109) — and this past season.

If Robertson does not sign an extension, he would become an unrestricted free agent prior to the 2027-28 season.
