Viktor Arvidsson recorded his sixth career hat trick and added an assist as the host Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on Thursday night.

Lucas Raymond scored a go-ahead power-play goal early in the third period, and Alex DeBrincat added two assists. John Gibson made 18 saves, including a penalty shot.

Connor Bedard scored for the Blackhawks, who are 0-5 on the road. Spencer Knight stopped 25 shots.

The Red Wings played amid uncertainty surrounding former captain Dylan Larkin, who was suspended without pay Thursday after refusing to play until traded.

The Blackhawks took the lead six minutes into the contest. Bedard scored his third goal of the season, backhanding a rebound of a Wyatt Kaiser shot. Roman Kantserov collected the second assist.

Kantserov nearly made it 2-0 later in the period as he banged a shot off the goalpost. Detroit had the first power play of the game during the final two minutes of the period but came up empty.

The Blackhawks committed two more penalties in the first five minutes of the second period but Detroit failed to capitalize. The closest the Red Wings came to scoring during that span was when Alex DeBrincat banged a shot off the right post.

Arvidsson finally put Detroit on the board at 7:31 of the period, deflecting William Wallinder’s point shot past Knight. DeBrincat had the second assist.

Frank Nazar earned a penalty shot after being hooked by Andreas Englund at 11:18 of the second period, but Gibson denied him with a pad save to keep the score tied.

Raymond scored just 1:09 into the third on a power play after he was the victim of a Patrick Kane high stick. Raymond flipped in a shot from the right circle with Moritz Seider and Arvidsson picking up the assists.

Arvidsson converted a rebound of DeBrincat’s shot with 4:34 remaining, then completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal.
