Charlie Woods battled inconsistency in his second round Saturday at the Junior Players Championship, but he still managed to stay within four strokes of the lead.

The 17-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods made four birdies and five bogeys for a 1-over-par 73 at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Combined with his 1-under 71 on Friday, he’s even for the tournament. He is tied for 14th after two rounds.

Woods started his second round well, with birdies on Nos. 2 and 3, but he gave those strokes right back with bogeys on Nos. 4 and 6. He steadied himself with pars on the next three holes, leaving himself even for the round and 1 under for the tournament at the turn.

He birdied No. 10 to get to 2 under, but he bogeyed the par-5 11th and the par-4 12th. Three pars followed, only for him to bogey another par-5, the 16th. That made him 2 over for the day on par-5s.

But he showed moxie with his response. He parred the challenging 17th “island green” for a second consecutive day, and then birdied No. 18 to get to even for the championship.

Sam Carraher, Giuseppe Puebla and Dawson Lew are tied for the 36-hole lead at 4 under par. First-round leader Chase Bauer is one stroke back at 3 under after shooting a 2-over 74 in the second round. He is tied for fourth with Brady Barnum (70).

Jack Mokris carded the low round Saturday, a 6-under 66.

The final round will take place Sunday.
