Rahm vaults to No. 3 in world rankings

Jon Rahm moved up two spots to No. 3 in the official world golf rankings following his victory at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

Red-hot to close out 2019

It was the Spaniard’s second consecutive victory spanning a six-week break, as Rahm also won the Mutuactivos Open de Espana the first week of October.

Rahm leapfrogged Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas as he closes in on a career-best year-end ranking. He finished 2017 ranked No. 4 and was No. 6 at the end of 2018.

He also became only the second Spaniard to top the European money list.

Rahm is now behind only Brooks Koepka and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. Following Thomas at No. 5 are Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods, England’s Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele and England’s Tommy Fleetwood to round out the top 10.

Webb Simpson moved up one spot to No. 11 following his playoff loss to Tyler Duncan at the RSM Classic.

Accolades keep pouring in for Duncan

Duncan, the 30-year-old who captured his first PGA Tour title on Sunday, faulted 217 spots to No. 170. Not only was the RSM Duncan’s first career Tour victory, it was his first top-15 finish since graduating from the Kory Ferry Tour in September.

Duncan, who’s previous best was No. 378 in 2017, is assured of his career-high year-end ranking.

“I’ve been working really, really hard these last two, three months and I played well at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, but other than that I hadn’t done a whole lot,” Duncan told reporters after Sunday’s maiden victory.

“So happy to see it pay off here.”
