Report: Carson Wentz wants out of Philly

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will seek a trade this offseason because of irreconcilable differences with coach Doug Pederson, ESPN reported Sunday.

Pederson benched Wentz in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts after a loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 — a fourth straight defeat that dropped the Eagles to 3-8-1 at that point.

The Eagles (4-10-1) conclude the season Sunday night against the Washington Football Team.

Wentz has struggled this season. He’s competed just 57.4 percent of his pass attempts (251 of 437) for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has thrown 15 interceptions and is averaging a career-low 218.3 yards per game.

He also has run for five touchdowns.

Wentz has been sacked 50 times for 326 yards — both of which lead the league. But perhaps play behind an offensive line that has had been juggled because of injuries has had something to do with that. Hurts, a more mobile quarterback, has been sacked 12 times for 54 yards in three starts.

Eagles’ Asking Price For Wentz Will Be High

ESPN said that should the Eagles decide to trade Wentz, the asking price will be high but they are expected to receive multiple inquiries.

Now 28, Wentz was the No. 2 overall pick by the Eagles in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Eagles in June 2019.

If he is still on the roster by the third day of the new league year, which will be sometime in March, he will be owed a fully guaranteed $22 million base salary for 2022 and a $10 million roster bonus for 2021, ESPN reported.

Wentz and his management team reportedly are prepared to work on financial issues to facilitate a trade.
