Taylor goes wire-to-wire to win Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Nick Taylor shot a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday to claim a wire-to-wire four-stroke victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Sunday in California.

Taylor overcame 40 mph gusts of winds and finished at 19-under to become the first Canadian to win the event at Spyglass Hill Golf Course.

The victory was the second on the PGA Tour for the 31-year-old Taylor, who also won the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi. Taylor then made 146 starts on the PGA Tour before emerging victorious on Sunday.

“That was amazing,” Taylor said, per the Golf Channel. “Up-and-down day. You know, I believed I could do it, because I’ve done it before, but to do it in that fashion, playing with Phil (Mickelson), obviously gives me a lot of confidence going forward.”

Taylor, who entered Sunday with a one-stroke lead over defending champion Phil Mickelson, benefited from an eagle and five birdies to offset three bogeys and a double-bogey in his final round.

Kevin Streelman had four birdies on the back nine to record a 4-under-68 on Sunday and finish in second place at 15-under for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Mickelson.

Mickelson, who was bidding for his record-breaking sixth title here, recorded a double-bogey on the eighth hole and a bogey on the ninth as Taylor surged ahead to a five-stroke lead.

Australian Jason Day (75) finished in fourth place at 11-under. Maverick McNealy (68), Daniel Berger (69), Australian Matt Jones (72) and South African Charl Schwartzel (72) ended up in a tie for fifth place at 9-under.

Jordan Spieth finished one stroke back at 8-under after carding a 67 on Sunday, marking the lowest round of the day.

Dustin Johnson, who shot a 78 on Sunday, finished tied for 32nd place.
