The Boston Red Sox placed first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain on Saturday. Pearce left Friday’s 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees after his first at-bat, citing back spasms. Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports The club called up first baseman/outfielder Sam Travis from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill Pearce’s roster spot. Pearce, 36, is hitting .180 in 29 games this season, though he had ramped up his production over the last two weeks. Pearce, the reigning World Series MVP, began the season on the injured list with a calf injury. Travis replaced Pearce then also, making his first Opening Day roster and appearing in two games before being sent down to Triple-A. Travis, 25, is hitting .251 for the PawSox and is riding a streak of reaching base in 25 consecutive games. –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
