Clemson starting defensive end Xavier Thomas will miss four to six weeks with a foot injury he suffered in a scrimmage on Saturday.
Clemson defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin said Monday the injury will require surgery.
“Unfortunate setback but he has the right mindset and will respond and get him back early in the year,” Goodwin told reporters.
Thomas was a third-team All-ACC selection in 2021, recording 27 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 12 games (10 starts). He also had 5.5 tackles for loss.
Thomas has 12.5 career sacks in 46 games (19 starts) for the Tigers over four seasons.
Clemson opens its season against Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Sept. 5.
