Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna is facing a DUI charge after an early morning arrest Friday, multiple outlets reported.
Records show Ozuna, 31, was booked into Gwinnett County Jail at 4:39 a.m. ET and later released on bond.
CBS 46 in Atlanta said police in Norcross, Ga., arrested Ozuna on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to maintain his lane.
“I disappointed my team. I disappointed my family,” Ozuna told reporters on Friday. “I don’t have anything to say more. (It’s) a legal matter.”
The Braves provided a statement earlier on Friday.
“The Atlanta Braves are aware of Marcell Ozuna’s arrest this morning and are still gathering all the facts pertaining to the incident,” the team said. “Our organization takes these matters very seriously and are obviously disappointed by the situation. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment until the process is complete.”
Ozuna did not play in the Braves’ 3-2 home win against the New York Mets on Thursday night.
The two-time All-Star is batting .214 with 20 homers, 46 RBIs and 107 strikeouts in 107 games this season.
This is Ozuna’s second brush with the law in 15 months. He was arrested on assault and battery charges in May 2021 after police reportedly saw him grab his wife by the neck.
He did not play the rest of the season for the Braves, who went on to win the World Series.
In September, Ozuna agreed to a pretrial resolution that included six months of supervision and a 24-week family violence intervention program.
In November, Major League Baseball gave him a retroactive, unpaid suspension of 20 games for violating its joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy.
Ozuna is a career .268 hitter with 193 homers and 666 RBIs in 1,146 games with the Miami Marlins (2013-17), St. Louis Cardinals (2018-19) and Braves. In the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, he led the National League with 18 homers and 56 RBIs.
