West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson Jr. was carted off the field with an apparent head and back injury midway through the third quarter of the Mountaineers’ game against Texas on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
Donaldson, who is listed as a tight end on West Virginia’s roster, lost consciousness after being inadvertently kneed in the head by a Longhorns defensive lineman at the end of a 2-yard run.
Donaldson, the Mountaineers’ second-leading rusher this season through the first four games with 380 yards on 52 carries, was secured to a stretcher after laying on the field for about 10 minutes.
He made a thumbs-up motion as the cart transported him to a waiting ambulance.
Donaldson had just nine yards on four carries before departing. He also had one catch for four yards.
