Sean Strickland defeated Jack Hermansson via split decision in their middleweight clash at the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
Strickland took the fight 49-46, 47-48, 49-46 at the UFC Apex.
Strickland (25-3) landed more strikes (161-137) and more significant strikes (153-137) than Hermansson (22-7), who finished 0-for-8 on takedown attempts.
“I was being a pansy,” Strickland said in his postfight interview. “I should have stayed in the pocket and thrown like I did at the end. Maybe I let the pressure get to me. Again, sorry. I was fighting like a b—- out there. Sorry. … Lesson learned. Won’t happen again.”
Strickland has won six straight. Hermansson was coming off a win in May.
Earlier, Nick Maximov defeated Punahele Soriano by split decision, 29-28, 30-27, 28-29. Maximov had 11 takedowns and 8:45 in control time. Soriano, however, landed more strikes and significant strikes.
The night’s other winners include Shavkat Rakhmonov (KO/TKO), Brendan Allen (submission), Bryan Battle (unanimous decision) and Julian Erosa (split decision).
