Cincinnati coach Wes Miller gets 2-year extension

Cincinnati is extending the contract of coach Wes Miller through the 2028-29 season.

The university’s Board of Trustees gave its approval on Wednesday to the extension, which will increase his average annual salary to $2.95 million a year.

Cincinnati is off to a 6-4 start, its final season in the American Athletic Conference before moving to the Big 12 in 2023-24.

“We have the right coach to lead us into the Big 12 in Wes Miller,” athletic director John Cunningham said in a news release. “This new contract extension provides further stability and increases investment into our men’s basketball program, which will set us up for success in the best league in America. Wes is one of the best young coaches in the country. He is building something special here at Cincinnati. We share his commitment to winning and look forward to competing for championships in the coming years.”

Miller, 39, coached UNC Greensboro for 10 seasons before moving on to Cincinnati in 2021. The Bearcats were 18-15 in his first season.

Overall, Miller’s record is 209-154. Greensboro made two NCAA Tournament appearances with Miller at the helm.

Miller’s 209 wins are the most of any coach before turning 40, per the school.
