Rangers’ Jimmy Vesey agrees to 2-year extension

The New York Rangers and forward Jimmy Vesey agreed to terms Wednesday on a two-year contract extension.

Financial terms were not disclosed, however TSN reported it was worth a total of $1.6 million.

Vesey, 29, was previously scheduled for unrestricted free agency this summer.

He has totaled 12 points (six goals, six assists) and a plus-4 rating in 38 games this season. He began his second stint with the Rangers after signing a one-year, $750,000 deal with the club out of training camp as a free agent on Oct. 9.

Vesey has recorded 147 points (78 goals, 69 assists) in 460 career games with the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils and Rangers.

Vesey played four seasons at Harvard, winning the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA’s top men’s ice hockey player in 2015-16.

The Nashville Predators selected Vesey in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft, but he went to college instead. He signed with the Rangers as a free agent in August 2016.
