Notre Dame fifth-year guard Dara Mabrey announced Monday night that she sustained an ACL injury over the weekend that will end her season and her collegiate playing career.
Mabrey played just two minutes on Saturday in the Fighting Irish’s 76-54 rout of Virginia before getting hurt and exiting the game.
“While it is certainly not the way that I wanted to go out, I’m confident that everything happens for a reason,” Mabrey wrote on social media. “I know I will find peace with my situation as I recover in the coming months.”
Mabrey started all 18 games for Notre Dame, which is 16-2 (7-1 ACC) and ranked No. 7 in the country. She returned to Notre Dame to use her extra year of NCAA eligibility after splitting her first four seasons between Virginia Tech (2018-20) and Notre Dame (2020-22).
Her older sisters, Michaela and Marina Mabrey, starred at Notre Dame and Marina now plays for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings.
Dara Mabrey posted career lows in points per game (9.3) and 3-point shooting (29.5 percent) in 2022-23 after a stellar college career. In 135 games (125 starts) between Virginia Tech and Notre Dame, she averaged 10.9 points and 2.4 assists per game and shot 38 percent from deep.
