Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim power Rangers past Phillies

Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim each hit a home run as the Texas Rangers defeated the host Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 on Tuesday.

Garver drove in two runs, and Heim had two hits and scored twice. Zach Reks doubled in two runs and Marcus Semien added two hits for the Rangers, who have won three in a row.

Rangers starter Jon Gray lasted just three innings; he allowed five hits and three runs to go along with three strikeouts and one walk.

Brock Burke (3-0) earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and Joe Barlow picked up his second save in two opportunities with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Phillies’ J.T. Realmuto homered and singled while Rhys Hoskins contributed a double and two RBIs.

Alec Bohm, Didi Gregorius and Matt Vierling had two hits each for the Phillies, who have dropped two straight.

Nick Castellanos (paternity leave) was held out of the lineup.

Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (2-1) tossed five-plus innings and gave up six hits and five runs, three earned. He struck out three and walked two.

The Rangers went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning when Garver hit a two-run home run to left-center field with two outs.

The Phillies quickly tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the first when Hoskins lined a two-run double to left. Nick Solak appeared to be in position to make the play, but the ball bounced under his glove and all the way to the fence. Gregorius added an RBI single and the Phillies took a 3-2 advantage.

Heim launched a solo homer to left in the fourth to equalize at 3.

Garver flied out to right with the bases loaded to end a scoring threat in the fifth.

Texas moved back ahead 5-3 in the sixth when Reks came in to pinch-hit and lined a two-run double to right. Semien followed with an RBI infield single for a three-run lead.

Realmuto lofted a solo homer in the eighth to close the Phillies within 6-4.
