The San Jose Earthquakes agreed to terms to acquire defender Jonathan Mensah from the Columbus Crew, MLSSoccer.com reported Friday.
Per the report, the Earthquakes will send $200,000 in general allocation money to Columbus, but up to $300,000 could be added if incentives are met.
Mensah is in the final season of his contract and will earn $1 million, per the MLS Players Association salary data released last fall. The Earthquakes will cover the entire salary, according to the MLSSoccer.com report.
Mensah, 32, recorded two goals and an assist while starting all 30 games in which he appeared last season.
Named the team’s captain in 2020, Mensah has seven goals and three assists in 159 career MLS matches (155 starts) with the Crew since joining the club in 2017.
Columbus won the MLS Cup in 2020.
