Seth Lugo gave up one run on two hits in his San Diego debut as the visiting Padres defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-2 on Saturday at Glendale, Ariz.
Lugo, transitioning from a mostly relief role after seven seasons with the New York Mets, gave up a home run to Gavin Sheets. Lugo hasn’t started a major league game in the regular season since 2020 and has just 38 career starts.
Trent Grisham went 2-for-3 and Aaron Brooks got the win for the Padres, as they held the White Sox to four hits.
Athletics 12, Diamondbacks 7
Kevin Smith went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jace Peterson drove in two as host Oakland beat Arizona in Mesa.
Kirby Snead earned the win for the A’s. Gabriel Moreno belted a home run for the D-backs, who outhit Oakland 12-11.
Reds 4, Guardians 3
Matt McLain hit a one-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to complete Cincinnati’s comeback win over visiting Cleveland in Goodyear.
The Reds scored a run in the eighth to tie it. McLain went 2-for-2. Steven Kwan went 2-for-3 for the Guardians.
Royals 10, Rangers 5
Kansas City clubbed three home runs and used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat host Texas in Surprise.
Hunter Dozier (2-for-3), Nick Loftin and Tyler Tolbert all homered for the Royals. Justin Foscue homered for the Rangers.
Cubs 10, Giants 8
Host Chicago used a seven-run fifth inning and took advantage of six San Francisco errors to earn the win in Mesa.
David Bote clubbed a three-run homer for the Cubs and Jared Young drove in two. The Giants smacked four home runs.
Angels 5, Mariners 1
Tucker Davidson struck out three and didn’t allow a hit in two solid innings and Jo Adell hit a two-run home run to lead Los Angeles past host Seattle in Peoria.
Marco Gonzales gave up four earned runs on five hits in two innings for the Mariners.
Rockies 12, Diamondbacks 5
Harold Castro went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to lead a 15-hit attack in Colorado’s win over host Arizona in Scottsdale.
Coco Montes, Zac Veen and Elehuris Montero also had two hits apiece for the Rockies.
Brewers 7, Dodgers 4
Garrett Mitchell hit two home runs and had four RBIs to lead host Milwaukee past Los Angeles in Phoenix.
Freddie Freeman had a two-run home run for the Dodgers.
