Andres Gimenez, Guardians take down A’s in 10th

Andres Gimenez lined a game-winning single with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Cleveland Guardians a 3-2 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.

Amed Rosario had three hits and Jose Ramirez had two for the Guardians, who won their second straight game. Both players had a run-scoring hit.

Tony Kemp homered among two hits for the Athletics, who blew a 2-0 lead and lost their sixth straight game.

Ramirez started the bottom of the 10th inning on second base as the automatic runner, and Josh Naylor was intentionally walked by Trevor May (2-4). Tyler Freeman laid down a bunt and third baseman Jace Peterson fielded it, but his throw to third was late, loading the bases.

Gimenez then ripped a 1-1 pitch from May just inside the right field line to give Cleveland the victory.

Enyel De Los Santos (3-1) pitched a perfect top of the 10th for the Guardians.

Cleveland pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh to knot the score.

Myles Straw led off with a double on Luis Medina’s final pitch of the game as Oakland’s second hurler.

Sam Moll retried the next two hitters before Rosario delivered a run-scoring single to left. Ramirez followed with a sinking liner to left and Seth Brown hesitated before making a misguided dive, allowing the ball to get past him for a tying double.

Oakland scored in the third inning when Kemp led off with a single, moved to third on a one-out single by Esteury Ruiz and scored on Ryan Noda’s infield out.

In the seventh, Kemp went down to get Aaron Civale’s 0-1 curveball and sent it over the fence in right for his second homer of the season.

Civale allowed two runs and five hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Medina was charged with one run in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up four hits and one walk and struck out four.

Oakland’s Ken Waldichuk opened and yielded two hits and struck out two in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
