Toronto FC promote Jason Hernandez to GM

Toronto FC promoted Jason Hernandez to general manager on Tuesday.

A former Toronto player, Hernandez, 39, is in his fifth season in the front office. Over the past two seasons, he was the assistant general manager of player personnel and engagement strategy.

His promotion comes after Toronto FC parted ways with head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley on Monday following a 3-7-10 start to the 2023 MLS season. Toronto also relieved assistant coach and technical director Mike Sorber of his duties and named Terry Dunfield as the interim head coach.

“I’ve seen first-hand Jason’s transition from playing at TFC to joining the front office,” Toronto FC president Bill Manning said in a release. “His growth as an executive has been exceptional, and he is ready for this next step in his career. Jason is very knowledgeable of MLS and is well respected around the league. I believe his future is bright with TFC.”

Hernandez retired from MLS play in April 2019 following a 14-year career. He played with five clubs and won the 2017 MLS Cup with Toronto FC, as well as two Supporters’ Shields and two Canadian Championships.
