Less than two weeks after signing Alex Galchenyuk, the Arizona Coyotes put the journeyman forward on unconditional waivers Thursday for the purposes of terminating his contract.
“The Club will have no further comment at this time,” the Coyotes tweeted.
ESPN reported that the Coyotes discovered an “off-ice situation” that was previously unknown to the team.
The NHLPA told ESPN it will review Arizona’s decision on behalf of Galchenyuk, who once again becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Galchenyuk, 29, signed a one-year, $775,000 deal on the first day of free agency on July 1. He previously played for the Coyotes in 2018-19 and 2021-22.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 draft by Montreal, Galchenyuk registered no points in 11 games last season with the Colorado Avalanche. He has 354 points (146 goals, 208 assists) in 654 games with seven teams.
