Rafael Nadal advanced to the third round of the French Open, notching his 300th career Grand Slam win.
Nadal, 35, improved to 107-3 all-time at Roland Garros on Wednesday night with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 win in Court Philippe Chatrier over French wildcard entry Corentin Moutet.
“I’m just enjoying the fact that I’m back here, at Roland Garros,” Nadal said. “It’s the most important tournament of the year for me.”
The Spanish star enjoyed past success at this venue, also recording his 100th and 200th career wins at Majors at Roland Garros in 2010 and 2016.
Nadal is the third men’s singles player with 300 Slam wins and fifth overall behind Roger Federer (369), Serena Williams (365), Novak Djokovic (325) and Martina Navratilova (306).
Nadal matches up with 26th-seeded Botic Van de Zandschulp (Netherlands) in the third round on Friday. In 2021, van de Zandschulp reached the quarterfinals of the US Open as a qualifier. The 26-year-old holds his highest career ATP ranking (29th) but has never faced Nadal.
